General Legendary Guides
Legendaries have been a staple of WoW expansions, but Shadowlands adds a twist with the crafting system. Max-level players in Shadowlands can craft legendaries at the Runecarver, unlocked through Torghast progression. These crafted legendaries can then be customized through legendary powers, which are unlocked by collecting Memory of the Runecarver recipes from Shadowlands content such as reputation, Mythic+, and raiding.
Legendary powers significantly modify an aspect of your character's gameplay, but you must choose wisely as you can only equip one legendary at a time. Check out our guides and calculator below to learn more!

Shadowlands Legendary powers grant impactful gameplay effects for your Discipline Priest through the new Runecarving system. As your crafted Shadowlands legendary will be the most important piece of gear in the expansion, providing large performance benefits, it is crucial to pick the right legendary to craft and effectively spend your Soul Ash.
In this guide, we will recommend the best legendary powers and item slots for your Discipline Priest for Shadowlands content, as well as highlighting which legendaries are not worth crafting.
9.1 Discipline Priest Legendary Changes
- Legendaries can be upgraded from 235 Rank 4 to Rank 6 262 now using Soul Cinders.
- There are 4 new legendaries, one for each covenant.
- Twins of the Sun Priestess can now be crafted in the Neck slot.
- VenthyrShadow Word: Manipulation: Do not craft. Crit bonus after casting Mindgames. Getting a large bonus after your two largest damage abilities in Schism and Mindgames is just not worth the legendary slot at the moment.
- NecrolordPallid Command: Summons a minion after using your covenant ability, not worth taking as a primary legendary.
- Night FaeBwonsamdi's Pact: The cooldown reduction provided by this legendary is very interesting, especially in more casual content where you can buff your friends to massive heights. Though in a progress environment Discipline will not want to play Fae, much less use this legendary.
- KyrianSpheres' Harmony: The cooldown reduction provided by this legendary shores up Discipline's covenant conundrum of finding a high damage ability to line up with Spirit Shell's new increased cooldown and still allow large shields to be created. This is a top priority craft in the leg slot.
Ideal Upgrade Order for Discipline Priest Legendaries
Assuming you're not looking for a specific legendary for off-spec, we recommend the following crafting order:
#1 | Recraft Clarity of Mind on the Ring slot at Rank 4 if/when you receive a Raid/Domination Chest slot from the raid |
#2 | Craft Spheres' Harmony at Rank 4 |
#3 | Upgrade Clarity of Mind to rank 6 for Raiding or Spheres' Harmony for Mythic+ OR if you're progressing on a raid encounter where the reduced Boon of the Ascended cooldown is more important. |
Recrafting Legendaries for Discipline Priest in 9.1
Shards of Domination is a new system for Sanctum of Domination gear that provides powerful customizable bonuses by slotting Shards of Domination into specific gear pieces from Sanctum of Domination. Unfortunately, you'll be unable to add Domination Sockets to Legendaries in Patch 9.1; therefore, you'll typically want to avoid equipping legendaries in slots that conflict with Domination Socketed items. This includes all Helms, Shoulders, Chests from Sanctum of Domination as well as two other item slots depending on your armor type:
- Cloth: Bracers & Belt
If your current legendary does conflict with a Domination Socketed item, you'll typically want to recraft that legendary to a different item slot. Additional item slot options have been added to most legendaries to accommodate these new requirements. For convenience, we've highlighted the most useful legendaries for Discipline Priest that you'll likely want to recraft as well as the new recommended slot for that legendary in order to avoid conflicts with Domination Sockets:

What Legendaries to Craft As a Discipline Priest
We listed the legendaries in terms of impact. The strongest and important legendaries are ranked first; legendaries not worth crafting are not mentioned at all (and there are many of them!).
Clarity of Mind
- Available Slots: Chest or Ring
- Crafting Preference: Ring
- Secondaries to use: Mastery/Haste
Has two functions depending on your talent selections. When talented into Spirit Shell, this ability extends active Atonements and decreases mana cost of damaging abilities. When NOT talented into Spirit Shell, this ability makes Power Word: Shields applied during Rapture to place longer lasting Atonements and cost less mana. Great legendary to take with either ability for the excellent increased extensions that it provides.
Verdict: Great raid legendary.
Spheres' Harmony
- Available Slots: Shoulder or Legs
- Crafting Preference: Legs
- Secondaries to use: Mastery/Haste
With the rise of Kyrian for Discipline comes the Sphere's legendary. This legendary is excellent in Mythic+ for reducing the cooldown of Boon of the Ascended by a full minute to allow more frequent uses and reduce Shadow Mend spam reliance, increasing your overall damage and Atonement output by a sizeable amount. In a raid environment, this legendary is niche, mainly for encounters with minor gaps between heavy damage. Soulrender Dormazain for example had about 2 minutes between his main mechanic's large aoe damage and if your raid dps is high, you will kill him before you can fit a 3rd Boon of the Ascended use in with a ramp. With this legendary you can ensure you get your third Boon cast off before the fight ends, providing a substantial output increase.
Verdict: Great Mythic+ legendary with niche Raid uses depending on the damage profiles and length of encounters.
Twins of the Sun Priestess
- Available Slots: Head, Shoulder, Neck
- Crafting Preference: Neck
- Stat preference: Haste/Crit
Good Mythic+ legendary that allows you to keep Power Infusion while sharing it with an ally. Coordinate with the DPS in your team to find the best time to utilize this cooldown on big pulls and let them know when you might need the buff timed for yourself in difficult to heal areas. Often this gets activated at the start of the pull so this helps you spread Purge the Wicked DoTs and stabilize your tank with rapid Shadow Mend casts if needed.
Verdict: Mythic+ option for Non-Kyrian Discs.
Best Discipline Priest Priest Legendary for Mythic+
From a Mythic+ perspective Spheres' Harmony is your best option as it gives excellent cooldown reduction which reduces some of the spec's reliance on Shadow Mend spam that it has come to know in Season 1. As a result, Discipline's damage will increase, as will their healing via Atonement.
Twins of the Sun Priestess is your preferred craft if you are not kyrian. Keeping the benefit of Power Infusion often helps you avoid using other major cooldowns to stabilize your team while also empowering your ally. Often you'll slam this down on cooldown with your paired up ally's cooldowns but for emergency moments where you need to use it for your own benefit this can increase your ally's damage at a key time while still giving you a bloodlust-like effect to help your team.
Best Discipline Priest Legendary for Raiding
Clarity of Mind is your preferred craft for Raiding in Sanctum of Domination with Spheres' Harmony seeing use on niche encounters where additional Boon of the Ascended cooldown reduction is helpful.
Do Not Craft Legendaries for Discipline Priest
...Everything else:
Class:
Best In Slot Shaman
- Kiss of Death: Allows Shadow Word: Death to convert into Atonement healing. Unfortunately after multiple Shadow Word: Death and nerfs to the legendary itself, it is not currently in competitive raid or M+ play.
- Crystalline Reflection: Creates additional damage when Power Word: Shield is consumed. Low-usage in PvE environments, decent extra damage. Mainly a legendary that would be good for torghast if you're not kyrian.
- The Penitent One: At this point there's just better options that overshadow this legendary.
- VenthyrShadow Word: Manipulation: Crit bonus after casting Mindgames.
Generics:
- Measured Contemplation: Buffs the healing of your Shadow Mend like the Azerite essence Devout Spirit from BfA. Problem with this legendary is that there is such a long duration between each buffed Shadow Mend that its nowhere near as consistent as the Azerite trait it was made from.
- Vault of Heavens: Causing Leap of Faith to have multiple charges and to be improving your mobility. Fun, but not strong enough to see competitive play.
- Cauterizing Shadows: Steadily nerfed over Beta; too weak to see competitive play.
